BASIL

Used in Aromatherapy for nervous insomnia, anxiety and fatigue, insect bites, poor circulation, headaches and muscular aches and sprains.
It stimulates the brain, acts on the senses and aids thinking, bringing clarity of mind and sharpening concentration. Is excellent for colds and coughs, vertigo and epilepsy, and is a general all round good nerve tonic and natural tranquilliser.
In the past was thought to be an aphrodisiac and for many centuries featured heavily in most diets.
It was also used to ward off evil spirits and is still worn tucked in a hat to ward off insects in Meditteranean climates.

NB: Basil is potent and may cause skin irritation in some, so always use cautiously. Avoid during pregnancy.
